Mykelti Brown Padronâs advice to new moms? Eat your placenta

In the most recent episode of Sister Wives, Brown praised the benefits of consuming oneâs own placenta. âI highly recommend every woman just eat your placenta. The placenta is all of the nutrients â Itâs all of the really good stuff that helps feed the baby when youâre pregnant, and the placenta is actually encapsulated. Itâs very good for youâ, she says in the show.
âI think it really helped me through my postpartum with Avalon. It really helped through my recovery, so I was like, âIâm going to do it again with my boys,â And so far itâs helped a lot. It doesnât have a taste. Itâs not like carne asada. I actually have a picture on my phone of my placenta and you can see the bite mark that I took out of it,â she adds. To note, the act of eating oneâs placenta is known as placentophagy.
However, the research does not conclusively prove that consuming placenta offers health benefits. âPeople who support eating the placenta say that it can raise your energy and breast milk quantity. They also say it can level off your hormones, lowering your chances of postpartum depression and insomnia,â per a WebMD article. These benefits, though, are yet to be backed by a scientific study.
Per the showâs official release, viewers this season will continue to follow along with the Brown familyâs triumphs, tribulations and unimaginable heartbreak. The show is produced by Puddle Monkey Productions in association with Figure 8 Films for TLC.
